Lawrence man accused in fatal shooting of dog

A Lawrence man was charged Friday with fatally shooting a Brittany spaniel after the dog wandered into his yard.

David H. Herren, 65, was charged in Douglas County District Court with a felony count of cruelty to animals, according to District Attorney Charles Branson.

The dog, named Arlo, was shot with a pellet gun after it came onto Herren’s property in the 1700 block of East 1318 Road, according to the allegations.

A summons was issued to Herren, ordering him to appear in court on Nov. 17.
