Charges filed in KCK motorcycle fatality

A 36-year-old man who allegedly caused a wreck while under the influence of alcohol was accused Tuesday of killing a motorcyclist in a Sunday night traffic crash in Kansas City, Kan.

Wyandotte County prosecutors charged Shaun E. Moton of Kansas City, Kan., with reckless second-degree murder in the death of 61-year-old Melody C. Hinshaw of Kansas City.

Moton, who turned 36 on Sunday, also was charged with leaving the scene of an injury accident and driving under the influence of alcohol.

The wreck occurred shortly before 11 p.m. Sunday on Interstate 635 near the Kansas Avenue exit. According to a Kansas Highway Patrol report, Moton’s Ford Focus struck the rear of Hinshaw’s motorcycle, throwing her to the pavement.

Moton was being held Tuesday night in the Wyandotte County Jail. His bond was set at $500,000.
