Kansas City postal worker Veronica K. Grant, 63, has pleaded guilty to stealing gift cards from the mail.

A U.S. Postal Service employee in Kansas City pleaded guilty Tuesday to stealing gift cards from the mail.

Veronica K. Grant, 63, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Kansas City to theft of mail by a postal employee.

Postal Service officials began investigating in April 2015 after a $50 gift card was reported missing after it was mailed from Springfield, Mo., to a person in Texas.

Postal inspectors determined that the card went through the process and distribution center where Grant worked in Kansas City. Investigators later obtained surveillance video that showed Grant using the card at a store in Blue Springs.

Grant was questioned, and five other cards were found during a search of her purse. Investigators have identified 11 victims of Grant’s mail theft.

A sentencing date has not been set.
