Police arrested a suspect Tuesday in connection with a reported kidnapping attempt Monday at a Merriam business.

Merriam police said surveillance photos of a man and a vehicle generated tips that helped lead to the arrest at an Olathe residence.

The 24-year-old man, who listed an Independence address, is being held in the Johnson County jail pending a review of the case by Johnson County prosecutors.

Police said the incident occurred about 9 a.m. Monday at a business in the 9400 block of West 55th Street.

An adult female employee told police that the man initially came in inquiring about a job but then told her several times that she needed to come with him. Police said he had attempted to reposition a surveillance camera, but it still captured his image.

He fled the business after apparently hearing approaching footsteps, police said.
