Cristo Rey high school briefly put on lockdown after shots heard nearby
Cristo Rey high school was placed on lockdown for a short time Thursday after gunfire was reported outside the school.
Kansas City police took a report of shots fired in the area, near Broadway and Linwood boulevards, shortly before 12:30 p.m. Near the school property, officers found a vehicle with a window shot out.
School officials heard the shots and were among those who called police, said Rebecca Summers, a school administrator. Summers said the school was put on lockdown as a precautionary measure and that no injuries or property damage were found in a search of the building.
In less than an hour, the lockdown was lifted and the school returned to normal operations. Summers said she could not remember a similar occurrence at Cristo Rey.
