Police seek man who tried to abduct woman from Merriam business
A man tried and failed Monday morning to abduct a woman from a Merriam business.
About 9 a.m., the would-be abductor walked into a business in the 9400 block of West 55th Street on the pretense of applying for a job, said Cpl. James Browning of the Merriam Police Department.
More than once, the man told a woman at the front desk that she needed to come with him. Then, apparently frightened by approaching footsteps, the man fled. At one point, he had moved a surveillance camera covering the front lobby of the business.
“But he didn’t move it far enough,” Browning said.
The man — whom police described as white, in his 20s, wearing a gray stocking cap, dark jacket and maroon shirt — left driving a late-1990s Honda, Browning said.
