Man charged with assault for allegedly spitting in KC officer’s face
A 35-year-old man faces assault charges after he allegedly spat in the face of a Kansas City police officer who responded to a disturbance call.
Joseph Garrington of Kansas City was charged with assault on a law enforcement officer for the incident that happened Tuesday in the 6800 block of East Front Street.
According to court records, officers responded to the scene as paramedics escorted Garrington to an ambulance. Garrington broke free, ran to the curb in the parking lot and began banging his head on the concrete. He sustained numerous cuts and bruises to his forehead and became combative with police and emergency workers.
Garrington spat in the face of the officer and told the officer, “I have Hep C and now you do too, (expletive),” according to court records.
Garrington was restrained on the stretcher and placed in the ambulance.
On Thursday, a Jackson County judge entered a not guilty plea on behalf of Garrington. He is scheduled appear in court Oct. 6 and remains in custody on a $25,000 bond.
