Man charged in robbery of Excelsior Springs bank that netted $150

A 20-year-old man has been charged with a $150 bank robbery in Excelsior Springs.

Kishahn Lewis is charged in federal court with robbing the National Bank of Kansas City at 2380 Vintage Court in Excelsior Springs on Monday afternoon.

A robber handed a note to a bank teller demanding money and saying that he was armed with a weapon.

He asked for $100s and $50s, but the teller told him she had only $50s. She handed over all three that she had and the robber fled, according to court documents.

A witness spotted the robber nearby getting into a gray Volvo and notified police.

A few minutes later, a Pleasant Valley police officer spotted the car at a convenience store and Lewis was taken into custody. Clothing matching that worn by the robber was found in the vehicle, according to the documents.

When questioned later, Lewis allegedly told investigators that he robbed the bank to get money to pay rent. The charge carries a sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
