Man faces federal charge after gun found in Grandview police car
A convicted murderer is facing a federal gun charge after allegedly ditching a firearm in the back of a Grandview police car.
Jeffrey T. Arzola, 32, was arrested last Thursday at a house in Grandview on a warrant for failing to appear in court on a drug charge.
Arzola and another man arrested at the same time were taken in a patrol car to Grandview police headquarters.
An officer checking the car later found a loaded 9mm handgun in the vehicle, according to court documents filed in U.S. District Court in Kansas City.
Video from inside the car showed Arzola handing the weapon over to the other man, who dropped it on the floorboard, according to the documents.
He is now charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Arzola’s criminal record includes a 1999 second-degree murder conviction, according to court records.
When he was a teenager he fired shots into a crowd outside a Grandview apartment complex, killing 18-year-old James Bankes.
