‘Got a light?’ led to robbery and shooting in Kansas City

Kansas City police were investigating a shooting early Wednesday that wounded a man.

Officers responded just after midnight to Linwood Boulevard and Bellefontaine Avenue on a reported shooting. Officers found the victim in the street with several gunshot wounds. The victim told officers that a man approached him and asked for a light for his cigarette. The man then robbed and shot the victim. The gunman fled in an unknown direction, according to the victim.

The victim was unable to provide officers with a detailed description of the gunman. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
