Murder charge filed in Aug. 19 shooting on Manchester Avenue

A Kansas City resident who allegedly killed a man after he fired a gun into a home faces a slew of felony charges, including one count of second-degree murder and two counts of armed criminal action.

Victor R. Nevels, 29, is accused of firing a gun into a dwelling in the 5700 block of Manchester Avenue on Aug. 19, killing Keenon Durham.

Nevels is also charged with unlawful use of a weapon and first-degree endangering the welfare of a child in the case.

According to court records, Kansas City police responding to a reported shooting found Durham inside the residence suffering gunshot wounds.

Witnesses told police they observed Nevels running from the residence just after shots were fired into the building.

Nevels is alleged to have fired into a bedroom where a child was present, court records indicate.

Prosecutors have requested a $400,000 bond.
