Two more armed robberies reported in Brookside Park
For the second time in less than a month, armed suspects have robbed people at a popular Brookside park.
The latest crimes were reported late Sunday night in Brookside Park at 57th and McGee streets. A group of four teenagers was robbed, and a young man was held up separately, according to Kansas City police reports.
Four suspects, one armed with a shotgun, approached the group of teens as they were leaving the park and ordered them to get on the ground and empty their pockets. After taking phones, money and jewelry, the suspects tried to steal a car that belonged to one victim but could not drive a manual transmission vehicle, according to police reports.
The other victim told police that he and three friends were sitting on a bench when the suspects ran toward them. His friends fled, but the victim said he did not run because the suspects were armed. The suspects robbed him and left the park on foot, heading west.
Another robbery was reported at the park July 7. A married couple in their 20s were sitting on a bench when two suspects, one armed with a handgun, stole a phone and wallet from them, according to police reports.
