Lee’s Summit’s Mason Elementary put on lockdown during threat investigation
Mason Elementary School, just north of Lake Lotawana, went on lockdown Monday after a threat was reported to law enforcement.
Later Monday, the Lee’s Summit School District said law enforcement had determined the threat was not credible and that the school was resuming normal operations.
In its initial announcement, the district said there was no known active threat and directed parents to not come to campus while law enforcement investigated.
The lockdown came at the request of law enforcement, which received a threat involving the school, the district said, noting that Lake Lotawana police and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office were involved in the response.
“We know this situation was frightening, especially for our students and for the staff who care for them,” district spokeswoman Katy Bergen wrote in a message to families and staff. “Moments like this can feel overwhelming, and we want you to know how seriously we take that experience. Our team worked quickly to support and reassure students throughout the lockdown, and we are so proud of how they responded. Counselors and additional support staff are available to help students process what they experienced, and we encourage families to continue those conversations at home.”
