Lee’s Summit is hiking the prices for these city services starting in July
Lee’s Summit is set to boost a swath of city fees for a range of transactions starting in July.
City Council members advanced the new schedule of fees and charges at their Tuesday night meeting. The slate of fees covers things like usage of the Kansas City — Lee’s Summit Regional Airport, the city’s animal control work, various construction and planning permits, utility connections, special events permits and public records requests.
The city has adopted “numerous” updates to the city’s fees and charges schedule since it established a comprehensive list in 1998, according to an ordinance about the changes, and the city is now moving ahead with establishing a new list that will go into effect July 1.
Many of the charges are being hiked to account for inflation, and some have not been increased in years, according to a city document outlining the changes. Most of the increases are by 3%, while others come at levels requested by city staff.
Under the city’s animal control department, fees for things like a breeder permit ($361, up from $350), a lifetime pet license ($52, up from $50) and animal adoptions ($140, up from $135) are going up.
Costs for rezoning and development plans are climbing by 3%, and the city is adding a new $400 fee for smaller preliminary development plan changes that don’t require City Council review.
The price of opening a grave site in one of the city’s cemeteries will jump to $1,000 on a weekday and $1,200 on a weekend or holiday (up from $800 and $950, respectively).
The police department will now charge $83.85 per hour for staffing special details, up from $61.23 per hour because of pay increases for officers and sergeants. The department’s hourly price for researching audio or video records requests will jump from $16.58 per hour up to $17 per hour.
