Expect to connect with artists at Fourth Friday Art Walk in downtown Lee’s Summit
Local artists will take to the streets at the first 2023 Fourth Fridays Art Walk event in downtown Lee’s Summit on April 28. The event, now in its 10th year, is held from 5 to 8 p.m. through August, and is among a number of community activities presented by Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street.
“The Art Walk is a unique event,” said Rachael Fitch, creative content and design coordinator at Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street.
“Our downtown businesses stay open late to host local artists and musicians, allowing attendees a chance to enjoy the arts in an non-intimidating way while providing exposure for the amazing shops and restaurants in our downtown district.
“There is just something special when you see the people in the community making connections with the artists and their work while enjoying music, theater and all downtown Lee’s Summit has to offer.”
Artists will include a mix of fine art, pottery, jewelry, illustrators and makers, Fitch said. Beginning with the May 26 Art Walk, attendees will be able to stop by Howard Station Park for Music in the Park, available from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
The community events include several activities designed for children, such as rock painting and the Story Walk.
“We are excited to bring back the Story Walk during the Fourth Fridays Art Walk on April 28th,” Fitch added. “This year the Story Walk features the children’s book ‘I See You Wind’ by author and illustrator Phyllis Harris. The Story Walk will be set up in Howard Station Park so attendees can walk through the park to read the book any time during the event from 5 to 8 p.m. There will also be an opportunity to meet the author and purchase the book.”
Aristocrat Motors of Lee’s Summit is the presenting sponsor for Fourth Friday Art Walks. Supporting sponsors include Saint Luke’s East and the Lee’s Summit Arts Council.
“We are so thankful for all of the small businesses and artists who showcase their talent and share their creativity with the community,” Fitch said.
Fourth Fridays Art Walks are free and open to the community. In addition to the April 28 kick-off for 2023, Art Walks are scheduled for May 26, June 23, July 28 and Aug. 25. For more information about the art-focused evenings, visit the Fourth Fridays webpage.
Other upcoming events presented by Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street include the Downtown Days community festival, June 2-4, and the annual Farmers Market, held from 8 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays and Saturdays through Nov. 4.
The May 13 Farmers Market will feature a Spring Celebration, with live music and activities for children. The first 250 shoppers will receive a free insulated market tote bag with the first 100 children having the opportunity to participate in free flower pot decorating and planting.
