The No. 1 goal for downtown Lee’s Summit: Shop local to keep money in the community
Get ready for spring by shopping for new trends, enjoying new dining spots and seasonal products — all while supporting small businesses.
The annual Spring Open House is March 4 and 5 in downtown Lee’s Summit. About 20 local businesses will reveal the latest home decor and apparel trends and offer special deals. Take a break from shopping to enjoy food and drink specials to fuel more shopping.
Julie Cook, events and promotions director of Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street, said the event is a great way to shop local and support small businesses.
“In all of our retail shopping events, our number one goal is to have people shop local and keep the money in the community,” Cook said. “Despite the pandemic, people have continued to support downtown Lee’s Summit and helped us continue to grow.”
The event is great for businesses to promote the new happenings in their stores, Cook said. For instance, people are eager to explore new floral arrangements and greenery to freshen up their space for the new season.
“Shopping locally allows people to keep their businesses open and support their livelihoods so they can provide for their families,” Cook said. “People frequently come out to support small businesses, which shows how important they are to the community.”
All A’ Bloom Flowers & Gifts will have fresh spring merchandise, including seasonal flowers, gifts and plants, Cook said.
Barb Keller, owner of All A’ Bloom, said she loves this event because it gives people the opportunity to enjoy new spring products while supporting the community.
“The community is so supportive of downtown Lee’s Summit,” Keller said. “Downtown Main Street has over 100 events each year, and we participate as much as we can to open the shop up to as many new customers as possible. It’s a great opportunity for us to meet new community members, so I love it.”
More and more people are finding out about downtown Lee’s Summit each year, so every event is more successful than the year before, Keller said. Coming together as a community to put on the event and provide shoppers with new products is something to look forward to each year, she said.
Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street is a nonprofit organization that was founded in 1989 by a group of business and civic leaders who wanted to enhance their community. Downtown Lee’s Summit is home to over 100 small businesses and continues to grow through the Shop Small Movement.
Volunteers donate thousands of service hours each year to support the nonprofit in its mission to serve the community as a premier destination for shopping and entertainment.
