Witches put on their best hats to roam the streets of downtown Lee’s Summit last week in search of great eats, spooky treats and amazing deals.

The annual Witches Eve event Oct. 7 gave participants the chance to dust off their pointed hats, don (mostly) black attire and enjoy a night of shopping, sipping and nibbling with friends and family. More than 20 downtown businesses extended their hours for shoppers to enjoy a wicked good time all night.

Attendees enjoyed bargains, local fall brews and cocktails, and scavenger hunts. The event allowed people to stock up on seasonal home decor and enjoy fall products, munchies and surprises.

Shoppers sipped hot toddies as they browsed The Razzle Bee Boutique. Owner Stacy Taylor offered snacks and beverages to tempt customers.

“I’m always super excited for this event,” Taylor said. “It’s fun for people to dress up like witches and come out for a night of shopping. It brings so much traffic to our small businesses while bringing people together for fun and socializing.”

Sandra Cooper attended the event with Bridget Myers. The friends said they enjoy attending this event because it allows them to shop while sporting their favorite witch costumes.

“It’s a blast to see everyone in a good mood,” Cooper said. “People interact more when they’re dressed up. It allows you to let out your inner child.”

Families with children saw the event as an opportunity to celebrate Halloween early in the season. Jennifer Warner and her daughter dressed as witches to enjoy the stores and showcase their costumes.

“Dressing up for Halloween is always one of the highlights of the year,” Warner said. “Being able to come out a few weeks early while the weather’s nice is a treat — especially for the little ones who want to wear a costume year-round.”
