Lee’s Summit plans open house ahead of improvements to Third Street
Open house set for Third Street improvements project
An open house to showcase future improvements for a section of Third Street in Lee’s Summit is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. on Dec. 18 in the Howard Conference Room on the second floor of City Hall, 220 S.E. Green St.
The city said the purpose of the meeting is to show the public its preliminary plan to make improvements to Third Street between Murray and Pryor roads. Representatives from the design engineering firm Olsson Associates will be in attendance to answer questions along with city staff.
The event is open to the public.
According to the city’s news release, the Third Street project will include widening Third Street, adding turn lanes and sidewalks, and installing a traffic signal at the intersection of Murray Road and Third Street. The project is meant to enhance safety and traffic operations by improving the Third Street corridor.
The city said the 2007 capital improvement sales tax will fund the project with a total cost of $5.1 million.
The project is currently in the design and right-of-way acquisition phases. Construction is expected to begin in spring 2019 and is anticipated to take up to 18 months. Third Street is expected to remain open to traffic during construction.
