Grand opening for city’s Water Utilities Service Center Dec. 15

The city of Lee’s Summit will have a grand opening and ribbon-cutting event at 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 15 for its new Water Utilities Service Center, 1200 S.E. Hamblen Road.

The new building will be home to all of the water utilities department’s staff and services.

“For the first time in modern history, all functions of the Water Utilities Department will be consolidated and housed at one location,” Director of Water Utilities Mark Schaufler said in a statement. “This new building will centralize our staff and services and increase our operational effectiveness, which means better service for current and future customers. In addition, as a result of careful planning and at the suggestion of the 2011 strategic planning group, this project was completely cash funded, meaning no debt had to be issued to fund the project.”

The Water Utilities Service Center will be open to the public at 8 a.m. on Dec. 19. Customers will be able to pay their bill at the new building during business hours or at the drop box.

All previous methods of bill payment are expected to still be utilized. Customers also may pay their bill at the cashier counter inside City Hall, 220 S.E. Green St.
