Heart of the Summit races set Sept. 16
The 2017 Heart of the Summit 5K/10K races are scheduled Sept. 16 at Unity Village.
The event will include a variety of fun and engaging activities for runners and families. For those who want to enjoy Unity Village in a less-strenuous way, a 1-mile walk option is available.
Various team mascots will be on hand to add to the fun, along with face painting, a kids’ dash, a bounce house and trucks and equipment from the Lee’s Summit police and fire departments. A choir from Pleasant Lea Middle School will start the race, and a standalone pancake breakfast will feature Chris Cakes.
The Heart of the Summit has been an annual event in the community since 2011, and is held each year as closely as possible to Sept. 11, the anniversary of the terrorist attacks on New York’s World Trade Center and the Pentagon.
This year, all proceeds from the event will be given to the Surviving Spouse and Family Endowment Fund. SAFE provides financial support for surviving spouses and dependents or, in their absence, the parents of sworn law enforcement officers, firefighters and emergency services personnel who died in the performance of their duties.
Registration details, race routes and additional information can be found at www.heartofthesummit.com.
The race is offered by the Rotary Club of Lee’s Summit, which meets every Thursday at noon at Unity Village.
