Players with Lee’s Summit ties take part in Ban Johnson All-Star Game
One of the highlights for any ballplayer in the Ban Johnson League is getting to spend an evening playing in a big-league ballpark. Several players with Lee’s Summit ties got that opportunity.
Pitchers P.J. Seufert, Zach Ours and Miles Kilgore – all Lee’s Summit North graduates – and Lee’s Summit West alum Ben McClain were all selected to play in the Ban Johnson All-Star Game, which took place July 6 at Kauffman Stadium. Seufert, Ours and Kilgore played for the J’s, which whipped the B’s 7-0 on the Kansas City Royals’ home field.
Seufert, who completed his senior year last spring at Rockhurst University, started for the winning J’s and threw one scoreless inning. Ours, a sophomore last season at Arkansas-Little Rock, also threw a scoreless inning as did Kilgore, a freshman who red-shirted last season at Missouri Western.
McClain, who graduated from West this spring and will play for Arkansas, played for the B’s and had a walk in his one at-bat. The B’s managed only two hits.
Lee’s Summit High grads Sam Derks and Noah Arni were also selected for the game, along with North graduate Michael Marra.
Now in its 90th year, the Ban Johnson League is open to players 23 years of age or younger. The league, which has eight teams this season, is made up mostly of recent high school graduates or college players.
