Business briefs: Moody’s issues stable financial outlook for OP convention hotel
Convention hotel bond rating
Moody’s Investors Service has affirmed its Ba1 rating on $107 million of debt involving the Overland Park Development Corp. The rating covers bonds for the Overland Park Convention Center Hotel.
Moody’s said the rating reflects the hotel’s “stable operating performance, as well as the city of Overland Park’s guest tax-support toward the hotel’s debt service payments.”
Moody’s also said “the hotel’s dependence on the city support has increased since 2007 when the hotel’s net operating revenues were substantially higher than they have been in recent years. While the hotel has not returned to its 2007 operating and financial performance levels, we believe it reached bottom in 2010 and net operating revenue has been improving since then.”
Olathe Medical Center expansion
HMN Architects Inc., based in Overland Park, is the project designer on Olathe Medical Center’s $100 million expansion. The project, announced last week, is the hospital’s largest ever and will include the addition of a four-story obstetrics wing and neonatal intensive care unit.
The contractors on the project are J.E. Dunn Construction and McCownGordon. The structural engineering firm is Bob D. Campbell & Co. Inc., the civil engineering firm is Payne and Brockway, and Brack and Associates Consulting Engineers is the engineer for the entire project.
Humanitarians honored
Tom Langhofer of Overland Park and Amy Holy of Olathe received the 2014 Humanitarian of the Year awards from Kelly T. Davis, CPA. The award recognizes individuals, clients and friends in the community who aim to make the Kansas City area a better place.
Langhofer was chosen for his volunteer work at the Healing House, a substance and alcohol abuse recovery home. Holy, a registered nurse, was chosen for her “professionalism, compassion, encouraging and comforting spirit of families and patients” who come through the emergency room at St. Luke’s South Hospital.
A $500 donation was given to both Healing House and the St. Luke’s Foundation.
Sports medicine practice
Nick Aberle II, an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in sports medicine and shoulder surgery, has joined the Providence Medical Group Orthopedics group in Kansas City, Kan. The group’s office is located on the Providence Medical Center campus at 8919 Parallel Parkway.
The doctor earned his medical degree from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, and performed a residency in orthopedics at the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
