Businessman honored by Leawood chamber for volunteer work

Mark Naster of Heartland Habitat for Humanity was recently recognized by the Leawood Chamber of Commerce for his community service and volunteer work over the past year. Naster was the recipient of the chamber’s inaugural Brian Schwark Ambassador of the Year award.

Moody’s Investors Sservice has assigned an Aa1 rating to $90 million in revenue bonds for the Johnson County Water District No. 1. Proceeds from the bond sale will be used to finance construction of a new pump station and reservoir along with related infrastructure. Moody’s said the rating and stable financial outlook partly reflects the district’s “diverse and affluent customer base, well-managed financial position, (and) the board’s demonstrated willingness and ability to set rates to provide debt service.”

The Overland Park law firm of Hovey Williams LLP said it won a 13-day jury trial on behalf of longtime client Great Plains Manufacturing Inc., which was involved in a patent infringement suit filed by Deere Co. The suit, filed in 2009 in Iowa, alleged that Salina-based Great Plains infringed on a Deere patent for certain rotary cutters. According to the law firm, a jury found that Great Plains did not infringe on any of the alleged patent violations.
