Stratford Commons senior living set for major expansion

Construction is set to begin on an expansion that would double the size of the Stratford Commons senior living facility in southern Overland Park.

The $7.5 million project would add skilled nursing and rehabilitation services to the complex, which currently provides memory care.

Tutera Senior Living & Health Care, the Kansas City-based company that owns the facility at 12340 Quivira Road, said the 34,000-square-foot expansion will add 38 private suites, four couples suites, a rehabilitation gym, a new dining area and other amenities.

Tutera said it will also renovate the existing property with upgrades to the dining, kitchen and recreation areas. The gym will include Nautilus equipment designed for seniors.

The new one-story building will adjoin the existing 29,000-square-foot memory care facility.

When construction is completed in late 2015, Stratford Commons will have 87 private suites, and four couples suites. The units will feature large, private bathrooms, a kitchenette, large exterior windows and high ceilings, Tutera said.

“The Stratford Common expansion rounds out Tutera’s senior living services in south Johnson County,” Joe Tutera, the company’s chief executive said in a statement.

The company also provides independent and assisting living at the Atriums, Lamar Court and Rose Estates, along with home health through Continua Home Health and hospice care through Continua Hospice.

Tutera offers a rental-based continuum of care service as opposed to up-front buy-in fees.

Stratford Commons opened in 1998 and is located on 4.7 acres across the street from the Overland Park Golf Course.

Tutera Senior Living operates 47 senior-living communities in 13 states. The architect on the Stratford Commons project is ATA Architects in Kansas City.
