Business briefs: QTS Realty acquires Virginia tech firm for $326 million
QTS acquisition
Overland Park-based QTS Realty Trust has reached an agreement to acquire Carpathia Hosting Inc., a cloud computer and managed services provider, for about $326 million. The transaction is expected to be completed by midyear, QTS said.
The combined companies will service more than 1,000 customers in North America, Europe and the Asia Pacific region.
QTS, among other things, operates 12 data service centers in eight states. Carpathia is based in Dulles, Va.
Mosquito control franchise
David Maginness has opened a Mosquito Joe franchise in Johnson County. The company, based in Virginia Beach, Va., provides mosquito control treatment to residential and commercial customers. The Kansas City area is a new franchise market for the company.
JCCC wins catering award
Johnson County Community College has won a gold award for catering its Beyond Bounds Electric! fundraiser from the National Association of College & University Food Services. The event took place last October to raise money for the college’s Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art. The college won in the category of catering for a special event among medium-sized schools.
BioKansas leader
Dennis Ridenour, a research scientist at the Stowers Institute for Medical Research, has been named president and chief executive officer of BioKansas. He will join the Lenexa-based organization on May 26.
Ridenour has more than 13 years’ experience in the bioscience industry, including the Harvard Medical School and Merck Research Labs in Boston.
BioKansas is affiliated with the Biotechnology Industry Organization, which works with biotechnology companies, academic institutions and other related organizations.
