Business briefs: Fast Company honors Overland Park financial services firm

An Overland Park-based online financial services firm called blooom has been named one of Fast Company magazine’s 10 “Most Innovative Companies in Personal Finance” for 2015. The company was co-founded by Chris Costello, Kevin Conard and Randy AufDerHeide.
The company’s technology allows 401(k) retirement account holders to check on asset allocation and assess the health of their investments. Users pay $1 per month with quarterly checkups for accounts that contain less than $20,000, and $15 per month for accounts of more than $20,000.
Olathe child care center honored
Children’s Lighthouse Learning Centers, 14200 W. 135th St., in Olathe received an award at the centers’ national franchisee convention recently held in Cancun, Mexico. The Olathe operation was honored for having the highest opening growth rate in the franchise system in 2014.
The facility, which opened in May 2014, is run by Aspen Robb and Jared Robb.
Nursing facility change
Kansas City Transitional Care Center, a 96-bed skilled nursing center in Kansas City, Kan., is now a subsidiary of Genesis HealthCare.
Genesis recently completed its acquisition of Skilled Healthcare Group, which had owned the transitional care facility. Genesis operates more than 500 skilled nursing and senior living centers in 34 states.
Overland Park building sold
Block & Co. Inc. Realtors said it has sold the Jo-Ann Fabric building at 11401 Metcalf Ave. to an unidentified buyer. The purchase price was not disclosed.
The 61,657-square-foot building is on the northeeast corner of Metcalf Avenue and 115th Street in Overland Park.
David Block and Bill Maas of Block & Co. negotiated the sale on behalf of the seller, a company formed by David Block, president of Block & Co.
