Blue Valley school district honors friends of education

Blue Valley Schools on Monday honored three individuals and four organizations for their contributions to education in the district.

The district recognized its “Friends of Education” for, among other things, volunteering, and serving as mentors and business partners. The group was honored at the district’s board of education meeting.

▪ Jerry Freidberg, who has served for nearly a decade as a YouthFriends first-grade volunteer at Mission Trail Elementary.

▪  Richard Napper and Curt Petersen, who worked together with the district to bring improvements to facilities at Blue Valley North, including new sports field lighting, artificial turf, and drainage improvements to the fields.

▪ The Leawood Police Department, Overland Park Police Department, and the Johnson County Sheriff’s office. The three law enforcement departments have partnered with the district to ensure the safety and security of students and staff.

▪ My Father’s House Furnishings Ministry, which has partnered with the district for the past four years to help others in need by coordinating more than 200 volunteers to remove old classroom furniture. Those items are then distributed to organizations in need.
