Plans are in the works for a new assisted living facility in Olathe that would provide care to people with Alzheimer’s disease, according to city documents.
Last month, the Olathe City Council unanimously approved rezoning and a preliminary development plan for Solomon’s Porch Assisted Living at the facility’s proposed site at 16560 Indian Creek Parkway.
The development is proposed to be a “small-scale facility that would provide 24/7 care in a home-like setting for individuals with Alzheimer’s,” according to city planning commission documents.
Solomon’s Porch would be comprised of two one-story buildings, each 9,886.4 square feet, and each housing 16 bedrooms. The two buildings would be constructed in two phases, according to planning documents.
Most of the property would remain open space, while adding stormwater management, landscaping and resident amenities, including a koi pond and walking paths.
The project includes plans for 40 parking spaces, including four ADA spaces primarily for staff and visitors.
According to the city, the lot where the facility is to be built has remained vacant since it was rezoned in 1987. It was part of the existing Indian Creek Office Park, which has shared access to W. Indian Creek Parkway and N. Mur-Len Road.
The Olathe Planning Commission also unanimously approved plans for Solomon’s Porch in December 2025.
Developers anticipate construction to begin this spring.
Solomon’s Porch receives warm welcome
An ordinance passed by the council last month said the proposal for Solomon’s Porch aligns with the city’s comprehensive plan, which includes addressing housing, and an initiative to make Olathe a “community for all ages.”
The city has developed a “Community for All Ages,” plan, which, according to the city website, works to “identify opportunities to promote a healthy, safe, and accessible environment for older adults.”
City Councilman Jeff Creighton said at the Jan. 20 city council meeting that Solomon’s Porch is a service needed in Olathe.
“It’s a great thing that we need. I know that area very well,” Creighton said.
Solomon’s Porch posted on social media after the meeting to thank the city for approving rezoning and preliminary plans for the facility.
“Thanks, Olathe City Council Members!” Solomon’s Porch said on Facebook. “The council is in agreement with the planning commission — Solomon’s Porch is going to be a welcome addition to the community.”
