Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens offers 200 varieties at its plant sale
The Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Garden, at 8909 W. 179th St., will hold its Spring Plant Sale later this month. The event will begin with a Friends of the Arboretum members’ pre-sale from 2 to 8 p.m. April 27. The public plant sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 28-30. Horn Club celebrates 10th anniversary with concert
The Kansas City Horn Club will present a free concert to celebrate its 10th anniversary at 3 p.m. April 30 at Leawood United Methodist Church, 2915 W. 95th St. Martin Hackleman, former professor of horn at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and Paul Steven, professor of horn at the University of Kansas, will guest conduct. The organization’s Youth Ensemble, made up of students in seventh through 12th grade, is also returning for this concert. More information on the club can be found at kchornclub.org.
Nominations now being taken for multisport award
Nominations are being taken for an award that recognizes individuals who exemplify the positive spirit of the sport of the triathlon through acts of sportsmanship, leadership and efforts to grow a more diverse and inclusive multisport field.
The Team Cecilia Spirit of Multisport Award is named after Cecilia Niemann, a young triathlete from Overland Park with cerebral palsy who participated in at least three Shawnee Mission triathlons between 2013 and 2019. Niemann died in late January 2022, just two weeks before her 18th birthday.
Nominations for the 2023 award can be submitted until June 30 using the form available at jcprd.com/1904/The-Team-Cecilia-Spirit-of-Multisport-Aw. The Shawnee Mission Triathlon & Duathlon Committee will select one annual award winner and up to two honorable mentions. Nominees do not have to be current or past participants in the Shawnee Mission Triathlon & Duathlon.
