913 readers react to Kansas Amendment 1, House District 14 race, judicial retention
Amendment 1
Vote no on the Amendment to the Kansas Constitution that would provide a constitutional right to hunt, fish and trap. This amendment is unnecessary.
More importantly, its passage opens the door to selling off the Kansas Constitution to protect commercial interests over the individual rights of Kansans. If adopted, any business could lobby for special rights for their customers to engage in a particular business.
It would be like auto manufacturers asking for car owners to have the constitutional right to drive. It is unnecessary and would only serve to make it more difficult for the local governments to ensure autos, drivers and roads in Kansas are safe.
This amendment would allow the auctioning off our constitution to special interests. Vote no on this amendment.

House District 14
In the 913 voter guide, there was no mention of the Kansas House race in District 14. I think folks should know that Merlin Ring, the Democrat in the race, is not running against a moderate, as other races have shaped up, but rather a dyed-in-the-wool Gov. Sam Brownback clone who has helped orchestrate the financial catastrophe that is unfolding.
A vote for Ring is a vote for the working men and women who remain on the tax rolls while so many others, in much better financial health, have been excused by a stroke of Brownback pen.

Justices
Gov. Sam Brownback wants to fire four Supreme Court justices because they are soft on hard core murderers. On Oct. 21, the court affirmed a conviction and death sentence for a brutal killer (10-22, 4A, “Kansas death sentence upheld for 1996 killing”).
Any more questions on his real goal and intent?

‘Intelligence’
I have read many opinions lately from people expressing a desire to vote for Hillary Clinton due to her being smart enough to make wise decisions.
I would like some empirical data to back that theory, because all I have witnessed is her failure or mediocrity in every endeavor the she has undertaken.

Been there, done that
Did you hear about the economic plan proposed by Donald Trump to get the U.S. economy rolling? His plan calls for reducing taxes for corporations, the “1 percenters” (they are the job creators) and reducing taxes for everyone.
The economy will come roaring back. Right?
Someone has already implemented that plan and it hasn’t been a success story, unless you define success by:
▪ A state credit rating downgrade.
▪ Not funding schools.
▪ Borrowing (stealing) from the employee’s pension system.
▪ Monthly state revenue deficits.
Gov. Sam Brownback should give Trump a call and tell him that Kansas has already tried “the plan”. It didn’t work.
Trump will get a win from Kansas voters in November. Oh well, keep your Republican blinders on. Maybe that “roaring” economy is right around the corner.
Trump has Missouri in the win column, as well. Who knows, maybe Trump will win the election and implement the “Kansas economic strategy” for the rest of America. Our schools will go in the toilet. Our pensions will be gone.
But at least we will have our guns.
