Plans for Big Bull Creek Park to be reviewed Monday

The Johnson County Park & Recreation District will hold a board meeting Monday to approve its 2017 budget and review the final designs for Big Bull Creek Park and a new beach house in Shawnee Mission Park.

The district has held numerous public meetings over the past year to get residents’ input on what amenities to include at Big Bull Creek, a 2,000-acre property adjacent to Interstate 35 between Edgerton and Gardner.

Preliminary plans called for trails, a nature playground, shelters, an indoor pavilion, a disc golf course, fishing areas, camping and a dog park.

Besides plans for the park itself, the board is also scheduled to consider plans for the park’s maintenance building and police substation.

The public hearing on the budget is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. followed by the special board meeting at 6 p.m., both at the district administration building, 7904 Renner Road.
