County sheriff warns about bail bondsmen scam
The Johnson County Sheriff’s office has issued a warning about scammers who have posed as bail bondsmen to steal money from several individuals in recent months.
The scammers are targeting people who have recently been released from jail on a bail bond.
According to the sheriff’s office, the scam begins with a phone call to a person who is out on bond. The scammer typically asks the victim to immediately wire money or send funds through Western Union.
The scammer might also use a phone number that appears to be local, and be using an actual bail bond agent’s name.
The sheriff’s office recommends hanging up on the caller and contacting the office at 913-782-0720.
