'Cane Fu' class to teach seniors how to defend themselves

Seniors looking to learn how to defend themselves in case of a personal attack have a new option.

Overland Park’s Matt Ross Community Center will offer a class in “Cane Fu” starting July 21 at 2 p.m.

The program, part of the county’s programs for folks 50 years and older, will focus on helping participants get better balance and teaching them how to use an ordinary object, such as a cane, to ward off an attacker.

The first few sessions will help seniors develop better balance and strength, and later sessions will delve into defense techniques.
