Home furnisher with a national following coming to Leawood

Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams, an internationally acclaimed home furnishings company, plans to open a flagship store in Leawood’s Town Center Crossing.

The North Carolina-based company plans a spring 2015 opening for the 10,000-square-foot store at 4563 W. 119th St., in the current Z Gallerie spot. Z Gallerie will relocate in the center.

Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams will offer upholstered and slipcovered furniture, armoires, beds, dining tables, chests, coffee tables, lighting, area rugs, accessories, artwork, and an exclusive bespoke bed linen collection.

The store will be dog-friendly with free treats and dog beds in fabrics that will coordinate with customers’ sofas.

Much of the merchandise on the selling floor will be in stock. Customers, as well as the design trade, also can custom-order pieces that will be delivered in just six short weeks in most situations.

The founders said they selected Town Center Crossing because they wanted to be surrounded by other dynamic retailers like their new Leawood neighbors the Apple Store and North restaurant.

The Leawood location is the latest in a growing number of signature stores for the Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams brand. Other signature stores include SoHo in New York City, Beverly Hills, Chicago, Boston, Miami, St. Louis, Denver, and Washington, D.C.

Its products also are sold in national chains and fine independent home-furnishings retailers nationwide.

Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams was founded 25 years ago. Gold had worked in the furniture business and said Williams had a great sense of style. They planned on a small company for a loyal group of clients, but word spread. They not only grew their market, customers began asking for them to expand their line.

The company’s trend-setting furniture can be spotted on such TV shows as The Good Wife, The Office, Sex & the City, Will & Grace, and Celebrity Apprentice.

Gold said comfort has been the cornerstone for the furniture company — comfortable to sit in, comfortable to look at and comfortable in price.

Z Gallerie, which opened in Town Center Crossing in mid-2008, closed Monday and is relocating to a 12,000-square-foot space at 4419 W. 119th St. in the center. It plans to reopen later this month.
