Business notes: New CEO at Family Conservancy
New CEO
Dean Olson has been named the new president and chief executive officer of the nonprofit Family Conservancy.
Olson, who currently is the organization’s vice president of programs, succeeds Betsy Vander Velde, who is retiring. Olson will assume his new duties on Dec. 1.
Vander Velde, who has led the agency for 20 years, announced her retirement earlier this year. The Family Conservancy’s board hired a consultant to search for her replacement, and there were more than 150 applicants for the job, the organization said.
“After all of our searching, the best candidate turned out to be our highly qualified, strong internal candidate who not only has a great working knowledge of the agency, but a national profile as well,” said Mike Luby, board chairman.
The Family Conservancy, founded in 1880, works with families and children across the Kansas City area to promote several initiatives, including early childhood mental health, school readiness, healthy lifestyles.
Worldwide reach
Overland Park-based Clarcor Industrial Air said the number of gas-powered turbines using its filters has reached 300 installations worldwide. The company said its device “is now helping power and utility companies in every major corner of the world with better performance from their gas turbines.”
Bond rating
Moody’s Investors Service has assigned a rating of Aaa to Shawnee Mission School District’s $20 million general obligation bonds. Proceeds from the bonds will help finance the construction of a new elementary school, an administrative center, and various improvements and additions at other district facilities, including security-related upgrades, Moody’s said.
The rating service said the investment-grade credit rating “reflects the district’s very large tax base with affluent residential income profile, well-managed financial operations...and manageable debt burden.”
