Bridge project in Merriam causes headaches

The Turkey Creek bridge on Johnson Drive in Merriam is closed for a rehabilitation project that is expected to take six months.

The highly traveled bridge was closed to vehicular traffic last week. Pedestrians can still cross. The city asks drivers not to take residential streets but instead to detour to 63rd Street (Shawnee Mission Parkway) via Nieman Road and Merriam Drive. The part of Johnson Drive between Nieman Road and Turkey Creek is open to local traffic only.

The total project cost is $1.9 million.
