A GoFundMe page has been created for the man who was hit by a vehicle while mowing at a Fairway church last month.

Brittany Moser, co-owner of the small Olathe family business Moser Lawn & Landscape, said the employee is still getting treatment and will need multiple surgeries to aid his recovery.

“His high spirits are... they just blow me away. He’s always so kind and well-mannered, and constantly thanking all the nurses and all the people that has helped him,” Moser said.

Officers responded around 1:40 p.m. April 29 to Old Mission United Methodist Church for a reported crash. Early investigation details suggest the crash happened as a vehicle driving East on Shawnee Mission Parkway ran off the road, according to Police Chief J.P. Thurlo.

The vehicle drove off the road near State Park Road and struck a man who was using a riding lawn mower at the church, Thurlo said.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing, police said.

Employee described as selfless

The 27-year-old employee, who Moser identified as D.C. to protect his privacy, is known for always putting others first, she said.

“He wants to make sure that you have everything you need,” Moser said. “He’s very hard-working, a quick learner, always well-mannered.”

“He’s just a kind-hearted soul, very silly, funny. A go-getter type,” she said.

Moser said D.C.’s brother, who also works for the lawn care company, was there at the time of the crash and witnessed it happen. He was shaken up by the incident, Moser said.

D.C. suffered multiple fractures to his face, ribs, shoulders and leg, Moser said. He’s working through issues with short-term memory, but doctors don’t think that is permanent, she said.

“I believe he’s going to come out of this on top, but it’s going to take time,” Moser said.

Moser said that D.C. recently got his phone back and has been texting other people, asking how they are doing. It’s another picture of his selflessness, she said.

“He’s a kid of God, he reads his Bible all the time, and then this happens,” Moser said. “So it’s crushing mentally.”

Moser said D.C.’s family appreciates the community’s support and prayers.

Donations from the GoFundMe page will help D.C. with medical bills and hiring an attorney, Moser said.
