Pedestrian dies after crash with 2 vehicles on I-435 in Overland Park
A pedestrian died after a crash involving two vehicles on Interstate 435 in Overland Park Saturday, police said.
Officers responded just after 3:30 a.m. to Interstate 435 at Quivira Road for a reported crash involving a pedestrian, according to Officer John Lacy, a police spokesman.
According to a preliminary investigation, the crash happened as a vehicle was driving north on Interstate 35 and merged onto the eastbound I-435 ramp. After the vehicle changed lanes to the left, it hit a pedestrian who was walking westbound in the same lane, Lacy said.
After the initial collision, the pedestrian was laying in the road and a second vehicle hit them, Lacy said.
Paramedics responded and pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene.
As of Saturday morning, police had not yet publicly identified the person who died.
Lacy said drivers of both vehicles stayed at the crash scene until police arrived and are cooperating with the investigation.
Anyone with information about the crash is urged to call the Overland Park Police Department at 913-890-1437.
