It’s been feeling like summer in the KC area, and there are plenty of ways to enjoy the mild temperatures heading into October.

In Johnson County, those include dancing at a sculpture in Leawood, listening to Kansas City Symphony musicians in Prairie Village, or experiencing the Moon and Water Lantern Festival in Overland Park.

Johnson County: Middle school student can get vaccines

Catch-Up Vaccination Clinic will be held for 7th and 11th grade students 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 10 at the Health Services Building, 11875 S. Sunset Drive, Olathe.

The clinic will provide Tdap, hepatitis A, meningitis, and HPV vaccines. No appointment is necessary. A parent must accompany each student.

Leawood: Eat and dance in the lights

Tickets are available for Dine & Dance at Mission Farms. It will be 4 to 9 p.m. Oct. 9 at Mission Farms, 10760 Lee Blvd. The cost is $25. Ticket holders will get $10 off their dinner and cocktails, followed by a silent disco at Leawood’s Reaching sculpture. Choose a channel, find a rhythm and dance as the sculpture lights up after sunset.

Lenexa: Learn about fire safety

Fire Safety Fun will be at Family Night from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 8 at the Lenexa Public Market, 8750 Penrose Lane. Lenexa Fire Department and the Lenexa City Center Library will offer yard games with firefighters and a safety-themed storytime.

Merriam: Hear classic rock live

Local tribute bands will perform classic rock music at Merriam Drive Live from 2 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, at Merriam Marketplace, 5740 Merriam Drive. It includes food trucks, adult beverages and a cornhole tournament.

Olathe: Kids can explore trucks

Olathe’s Touch-A-Truck is from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Stagecoach Park, 1205 E. Kansas City Road. Climbing into cabs and honking horns, Kids of all ages can see, touch, and safely explore heavy machinery and meet with the staff.

Olathe: Tribute bands to play in park

Olathe Live! will have Landslide, a Fleetwood Mac tribute band, and Waking Up The Neighbours, a Bryan Adams tribute band, from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday at Stagecoach Park, 1205 E. Kansas City Road.

Overland Park: Lantern festival at the arboretum

Hosted by the Kansas City Chinese Association, the Moon and Water Lantern Festival will be held from 3:30 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens, 8909 W. 179th St. lanterns reflecting on the water, live performances, lion and dragon dances, delicious food for purchase, and games.

Overland Park: Halloween games, rides, pumpkins and more

Pumpkin Hollow is being offered on selected dates in October at Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead, 13800 Switzer Road. Spider web maze, pedal cars down Orrin’s Country Road, scare the crows away at Slingshot Alley, climb with a goat in Kidz Corral, and old-fashioned games and activities. Pick a pumpkin to take home. Tickets must be purchased online in advance. No tickets will be sold on site.

Overland Park: Storytime for preschoolers at museum

Animal Orchestra, a retro story time for preschoolers will be offered from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Oct. 8 at the Johnson County Museum, 8788 Metcalf Ave. Craft activity after the story. It’s ree for members and $2 for nonmembers. Preregistration. Tickets are available on the day of if space is available.

Overland Park: Celebrating Hispanic heritage

National Hispanic Heritage Month will be celebrated from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 8 at the Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave. Free. No ticket required. Live performance, activities, bike displays from the Olathe Leadership Lowrider Bike Club, food available for purchase.

Prairie Village: Symphony musicians come to play

Kansas City Symphony musicians will perform a free outdoor chamber music concert with their Mobile Music Box from 6 to 7 p.m. Oct. 6 at Meadowbrook Park, 9101 Nall Ave.

Roeland Park: Public Safety Night coming up

Roeland Park Police Department will hold Public Safety Night from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 9 at the north parking lot of City Hall, 4600 W 51st St. Meet officers, fire fighters and County Sheriff’s officials and enjoy free food, drinks and games for the kids.

Shawnee: Make your own scarecrow

The Scarecrow Festival will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at City Hall, 11110 Johnson Drive. Scarecrow making, pumpkin decorating, farmers market and seasonal displays. Supplies and decorations will be provided at no cost.
