Ready to be her royal subject? Meet Queen the dog, and a lucky kitten named Fortune

Queen
Queen Special to The Star

Queen

Breed: Siberian husky mix

Age: 3 years old

This Queen is ready to meet her royal subjects. While she is a beauty inside and out, she really is a humble lady. Queen first came to Wayside Waifs from a rural shelter in Tennessee. She’s gotten used to shelter life, and made friends with the staff and volunteers here. But she’d rather be part of a family.

She’s active, playful and a bit independent. She enjoys daily walks, but watch out for squirrels. She might take a second to get warmed up in a new home, but praise and encouragement is the way to her heart. She loves to chase after balls and play outside. She can be picky about her dog friends, so the best advice is to bring in your dog to make sure they’re a good fit for each other. She’s perfectly OK with being your one and only, as well. Once she warms up, she shows her silly, fun and goofy personality.

Fortune

Breed: Domestic shorthair mix

Age: 5 months old

Are you feeling lucky? Check out Fortune, who came to Wayside after being found at a pawn shop. The good Samaritan shop owners called animal control, and now here he is in Wayside’s care.

The first thing people notice about him is his legs. His back legs are congenitally malformed. Don’t be discouraged, though, because he doesn’t let that stop him from enjoying his life. He keeps himself clean, uses the litter box, and gets around at top kitten speeds.

He’s been in a foster home to prove just how resilient he is, and he is doing very well. He enjoys running around, playing and getting attention from his foster family. His condition does require his family to observe him carefully to make sure he stays healthy and avoids obstacles, but other than that, he is a normal kitten. If you’re interested in meeting Fortune, call 816-986-4426 to schedule a time to meet him.
