Emmie
Breed: Beagle mix
Age: 14
Emmie is the sweetest girl. She’s looking to live out her golden years with her forever family. She loves being around people and really enjoys being held.
She is potty trained and has a great appetite. Emmie would do best as an only dog, but she tends to ignore cats. She absolutely loves to be with her person, and her ideal home would be with someone who is retired or works from home.
Melissa’s Second Chances is a nonprofit animal rescue in Shawnee that finds homes and safe refuge for animals in need of a second chance to be a beloved family pet. The rescue organization was one of 90 animal welfare groups chosen from 370 applicants to receive a grant from The Grey Muzzle Organization to help senior dogs such as Emmie. The winning groups received $848,000 in grants to help save or improve the lives of at-risk elderly dogs in their communities. For details on Grey Muzzle, visit this site.
Addie Macey Franko Special to The Star
Addie
Breed: Hound mix
Age: 1 year old
Addie has quickly crept her way into being a staff and volunteer favorite. She can be shy and nervous at first, but then her typical jumpy puppy behaviors come out.
She’s mostly grown up in shelters, but she dreams of having a home where she can experience all the great things that are out there. She’s already housebroken and crate trained. Wayside got Addie from a rural shelter in Arkansas in the hopes for a better life, and adjusting to a bigger shelter was scary. We sent her to a foster, and that made all the difference.
Once she was comfortable with the home environment, her personality really came out. She did well with the social puppy in the home, and learned what a cat was, too. She will thrive in a positive, patient environment for her training. She enjoys learning from dog friends, so she hopes you have one that can show her the ropes of life. She loves walks and does well on her leash. A big thing with Addie is to allow her to have a calm and quiet home without a lot of commotion: loud noises and fast movements can startle her and she needs to time to process her new life. She looks forward to making memories with you. Visit this sweet girl today.
Conan Teryn Jones Special to The Star
Conan
Breed: Domestic shorthair
Age: 9 years old
Please welcome Conan. No, he’s not a talk show host, but the way he chatters, he might as well be. He’s the ultimate feline socialite. He loves meeting new people, even though he’ll tell you he’s never met a stranger.
Are you looking for a lap kitty? He’s your man. Conan came to Wayside from a partner shelter in Iowa, and we are so excited to have him. He also loves to play. He enjoys using his mind, so he asks for extra playtime and mental stimulation in his new home. His favorite toy is a wand toy.
He’s truly the perfect companion for anyone looking for a friendly and loving cat. Conan is FIV-positive, which is by no means a negative. He will thrive in a home where he gets regular vet visits and checkups like a normal kitty would. He’s become a staff and volunteer favorite because of his lovely voice, sweet mannerisms, and playful personality. What more could you ask for?
