Sniffing out homes: People needed for pets at shelters in Johnson, Jackson counties

Checkers
Checkers Special to The Star

Checkers

Breed: Terrier mix

Age: 2 years old

Checkers came from a transfer partner in Texas. She has settled in nicely, but she’s ready to find her permanent home. She’s become a staff and volunteer favorite because of her goofy and sweet personality. She knows “sit” already, and is eager to continue her training.

She is a star walker and super easy to leash, something she likes to brag about. She enjoys checking things out and sniffing out all the smells. Walks are fun for her, so she hopes you like to explore. She has met a few dog friends since being at Wayside, and she enjoys playing with them. She listens to corrections and takes appropriate breaks. She has a big personality that will fill a home with love and joy, and she can give you a lifetime of silliness and love. What more could you ask for?

Possum
Possum Macey Franko Special to The Star

Possum

Breed: Domestic shorthair/tabby

Age: 2 years old

Possum is no ordinary little critter. She’s a funny little girl who is just happy to be here.

Possum’s favorite things are attention and affection. She likes to be held, or be by your side. She’s an easy-going gal. She recently had a spa day at Wayside and got her nails trimmed, and she did great. She likes to be pampered and can you really blame her? She was promptly rewarded with treats, which she loves.

Her favorite treats are Tuna Temptations, in case you were wondering. Did we mention she loves to cuddle and give affection? Possum will do well in most homes because of her confident personality. Anywhere that she can be loved, adored and fed many treats sounds like a dream home for her..
