A host of issues and candidates fill the April 7 ballot in Johnson County

Nineteen cities, school boards and voting districts have contested races in the April 7 spring election — something for every Johnson County voter.

Education is particularly hot this spring. Johnson County Community College has three at-large seats contested, and every school district except tiny Spring Hill has contested board races. School board races are especially significant in Gardner and De Soto, which have seen strife in recent years, and Shawnee Mission, which has a relatively new superintendent and is in an era of change.

Olathe, Shawnee and Lake Quivira voters will choose mayors and voters in those cities and De Soto, Edgerton, Gardner, Mission Hills, Overland Park, Roeland Park and Spring Hill will choose council members.

In-person advance voting began Tuesday at the Johnson County Election Office, 2101 E. Kansas City Road in Olathe, and will continue from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday; from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday; and on Monday from 9 a.m. to noon.

You must present a government-issued photo ID to vote in Kansas. Valid ID includes a driver's license, non-driver ID card, U.S. passport or Kansas college ID.
