New senior living community

Johnson county residents June 8 celebrated the opening of a new senior living community in the heart of Overland Park. City Council President John Thompson and Chamber President Tracey Osborne were present for the grand opening ceremony.

The Sheridan at Overland Park, located at 10300 Indian Creek Parkway, has 116 assisted living and memory care units and includes prepared meals.

“The Sheridan is unique in that it blends the latest concepts in senior living design with a warm and nurturing environment, all specifically programmed around residents and their families,” said Peter Crane, executive director of The Sheridan at Overland Park. “The response we’ve received from the Overland Park community and the surrounding area has been great, and we’re excited to serve the community for a long time.”

The residence, which will create at least 100 jobs in the area, is a part of CityPlace, a community development that includes shops, walking trails and offices.

Shawnee Mission Health welcomes new faces

Shawnee Mission Health recently welcomed oncologists Abdulraheem Qasem and Mouhammed Kyasa and endocrinologist Andrew Green to the Shawnee Mission Physicians Group.

“We’re pleased to welcome these physicians to Shawnee Mission Health,” said Shawnee Mission Physicians Group Chief Operating Officer Scott Woods. “We look forward to partnering with these new Shawnee Mission Health physicians in Medical Oncology and Endocrinology, which will allow us to continue to serve our patients throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area with the quality care we are known for.”

Qasem, a board-certified physician, completed his Medical Doctorate at Jordan University of Science and Technology School of Medicine in Irbid, Jordan. He has also taught medicine as an assistant professor at UMKC School of Medicine.

Kyasa graduated from the Aleppo University Faculty of Medicine with his Doctor of Medicine. Before accepting his current position, he served as a staff physician at the Cancer Center at St. Francis Health in Topeka.

Green, who earned his medical degree from the University of Michigan’s Integrated Premedical-Medical Program, is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology and Metabolism. He is also a member of the American College of Physicians and the American Diabetes Association.

The three physicians are currently practicing at the Shawnee Mission Medical Center campus.
