Straub Construction working on new Shawanoe Elementary School
Straub Construction of Shawnee is overseeing construction of a new $15 million elementary school for the Shawnee Mission School District.
The new Shawanoe Elementary School at 11230 W. 75th St. in Shawnee, will be going up near the existing building. It will be slightly larger than the current school, with capacity for 500 to 550 students.
The project calls for construction of a two-story, 84,650-square-foot building, with a new parking lot and other site improvements. The existing school will be torn down.
The new school gymnasium, which will also double as a storm shelter, will be separate from the cafeteria.
Construction is scheduled to be completed by fall 2016.ACI/Boland Inc. of Kansas City is the architect.
Straub, which is the general contractor on the Shawanoe building, has worked on numerous school projects for the Shawnee Mission School District.
The company also is working on the renovation of Frontier School of Innovation, 6700 Corporate Drive in Kansas City. The charter school serves students in kindergarten through eighth grade.
The project includes renovation of classrooms, support space, administrative offices and the addition of a fire sprinkler system. The architect on the project is BNIM Architects of Kansas City.
