SelectQuote plans to add 225 employees

SelectQuote, the Leawood insurance company, will hold an open house July 1 as it seeks to fill openings for 225 new employees.

The company said the additional employees will nearly double the size of its office, which currently has a staff of 250. SelectQuote plans to fill the positions by August in advance of Medicare’s annual enrollment period that begins in mid-October.

The new positions will be in customer service sales, assisting customers as they shop for insurance plans.

“Every day, 10,000 people turn 65 years old and become eligible for Medicare coverage,” Tom Grant, SelectQuote’s president said in a statement. “With this growing audience, we see a building demand in our market.”

In 2013, the company hired 140 employees in advance of the Medicare open-enrollment period. Much of the company’s growth has come through its division that offers insurance coverage for those who are Medicare-eligible. The company also specializes in term life, auto and home insurance plans.

SelectQuote, which was founded in 1985, moved several years ago from Kansas City to a building a few blocks away but across the state line in Leawood.

The move came with incentives from the state of Kansas worth $5 million, most of it from the Promoting Employment Across Kansas, or PEAK, program. It allows employers to pocket 95 percent of their employee's state income taxes for up to five to seven years in exchange for bringing jobs to the state. The company, in turn, was required to create 290 jobs in Kansas over five years.

The July 1 open house will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at SelectQuote’s office at 2020 W. 89th St.
