KC firefighters rescue man from burning home

Kansas City firefighters rescued an elderly man from a burning home early Tuesday.

Fire crews responding to the blaze in the 4600 block of Bales Avenue found a 77-year-old man face down in a hallway in cardiac arrest, said Battalion Chief James Garrett.

Emergency medical personnel took the man to an area hospital.

Fire crews received the alarm at 1:49 a.m. and reached the blaze within two minutes, perhaps aiding the man’s chances of recovery, Garrett said.

The man lived alone at the home, which had no working smoke detectors, Garrett said. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
