New Northland sidewalks, paths and roadway fixes could get extra boost from KC
More than $500,000 in city money could be added to help make improvements on a busy roadway in Kansas City’s Northland near Penguin Park.
The Kansas City Council is considering moving $550,000 from the unappropriated fund balance within the Capital Improvements Fund for the NE Vivion Road streetscape improvement plan in Clay County, at the request of Councilman Crispin Rea, who represents District Four, which includes part of the Northland.
The project, which is a partnership with both the TIF Commission and Missouri Department of Transportation, will include a variety of streetscape improvements, including added sidewalks, new LED street lighting and new traffic signals.
It will also feature safety improvements to intersections, a shared-use path on the north side, an enclosed stormwater system, widened pavements and asphalt resurfacing.
Improvements will be conducted along NE Vivion Road between NE Chouteau Trafficway to N Highland Avenue, spanning about a mile.
The plan is currently in the design process, with construction expected to begin sometime in 2028.
