Hitchhiker dies after being struck twice crossing I-70

A man authorities believe was trying to hitchhike was struck twice trying to cross Interstate 70 on the Kansas Turnpike on Thursday evening.

Kansas Highway Patrol received a call about the incident at 8:30 p.m. Authorities say that the 42-year-old man from the St. Louis area was struck by two vehicles. The driver of the first vehicle left the scene. Those riding in the second vehicle are cooperating with the investigation.

The man died on the scene, troopers say.
