Grand Boulevard bridge in Kansas City demolished; I-670 shut down

The Grand Boulevard bridge is no more. For now, at least.

Construction crews began demolishing the cracked bridge this weekend, shutting down part of I-670 in the process.

Crews were using construction equipment to clear debris from the area Saturday afternoon. The bridge has been closed since May and a new bridge is scheduled to open by early December.

This weekend’s construction work closed off a major artery in Kansas City’s downtown. Traffic from I-670 was diverted toward I-70 while crews took the bridge down early Saturday morning. The demolition is expected to be complete by Monday morning and I-670 reopened.

The bridge was first closed because of cracks and falling chunks of concrete.
